When I first decided, I was going to buy a DSLR or mirrorless camera I started looking at all of the major brands. Canon, Nikon and Sony were at the top of my list. I also look at Fuji, Olympia and of course Amazon for any camera.

I was in discussion with a co-worker and he has the canon r50, I was on youtube understanding what I wanted from this camera. I was talking to another person that does professional photography and he uses the Sony z50. Choosing the camera I wanted was really what I wanted. But then, at the same time I did not want to be limited by the camera I purchased if I wanted to go outside the abilities of the camera. I was close to buying a new Canon t7 but when you read reviews or listen to youtube. All the videos were more about what it lacks then how it can be used.
That made me nervous as a new photographer getting into the hobby, what was I going to miss out on?
I watch many videos on many camera that I found for sale from anything Canon to Nikon almost Sony. I knew I wanted to stay under $500 for a camera body and lens and I could purchase the rest. I watched on Facebook and even KEH just seeing what was coming out in the used department.

I had settled on purchasing this Nikon D5600 and was waiting for the weekend to drive down to a neighboring city to get it. Since I was working out of town the wrong direction getting it before the weekend was going to be tough. During the wait a Canon 800D became available on Facebook a little further away and I knew I wanted Canon for the color and features that it comes with. I also was able to tap into the aftermarket and used department for the EF lens another important factor me was how to get accessories. After discussing it with my wife we drive further to get the Canon.
Since this facebook post came about and I was able to talk them down to my budget. I was excited and could not wait to get there to get it even if it was around a 4 hour trip there and back. It was perfect in every way.
Bag, Battery, Charger, Body, 24mm, 18-55 and 55-250mm lens, It came with a huge SD card, cleaning stuff. We drove back home, once we returned home I was able to put the battery on charge and confirm that everything works as it should. I also during this time got back on youtube and started understanding the setting and learning how to use the camera for the best pictures.
Why I wanted the Canon?
- Articulating Screen
- 6 FPS Shooting for Sports
- Built-in Wifi
- Multi-point auto Focus – 45 to 1.
- Budget vs Specs
Now the funny part of all this is – I took the hard route and learned from the videos how to shoot in Manuel mode – Where I want the settings to be for the best outcome and if your take a look at my Instagram or Flickr you will be most of my pics (shot with the Canon) are great pictures. However, since i chose this route. I am unable to get the quality shots from other modes. So, I just stay in Manual mode 99% of the time.
